ATLANTA – From the international headquarters of the civil rights organization, co-founded by the Rev.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Dr. Charles Steele issued the following statement regarding the shooting
death of Walter Scott, and the speedy arrest of the white police officer involved in the shooting.
“On behalf of the National Chairperson, Dr. Bernard LaFayette and the entire SCLC family, I would like to
offer our condolences and prayers to the family of Walter Scott. SCLC pledges our full support to the
family in this time of sorrow, and is committed to working with the family and other concerned
groups/individuals to making sure that justice is served in this senseless death.
