SCLC Confederate Flag Opinion

SCLC Confederate Flag Opinion

“The confederate flag represents a time in history when the southern states fought to keep an institution of subservience. The flag is a constant reminder of the suffering African-Americans endured during slavery, reconstruction, and the Civil Rights movement in the sixties. It is also a reminder that nothing much has changed in the minds of some that still perpetuate racism.

Now that the Confederate flags are coming down from the steeples of state capitols, we must begin the process of healing and reconciliation. SCLC is prepared to collaborate with government authorities on all levels to construct and implement a plan of action using Dr. King’s ideals and philosophy.”

Dr. Charles Steele, Jr.
