Dr. Charles Steele, Jr., President/CEO of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) announced the 63rd Annual Convention of the SCLC along with Mrs. Cathelean Steele, the National Convention Coordinator. This year’s events will be held Thursday, July 21st through Friday, July 22nd. The events will begin with a prayer breakfast Thursday morning at Hillside International Truth Center in Atlanta, GA with all subsequent events being held virtually on the SCLC convention website (www.sclcconvention.com website).
With a theme of “The Right to Vote – The Fight for Justice”, the SCLC wanted to focus on core issues facing us during these perilous social and political times. “The Right to Vote, which was taken from us with the gutting of the Section 4 and Section 5 in 2013, has put the fight right back where we began” Dr Steele was quoted in response to why this year’s theme was chosen.
Along with the prayer breakfast and panel discussions, the convention will also have its signature Opening Ceremony featuring a Presidential Address by Dr. Steele and the Women’s Empowerment Awards Ceremony, hosted Mrs. Steele.
