In Memory of Noted Memphis SCLC President Dwight Montgomery

A Statement of Condolences from SCLC National President/CEO Charles Steele Jr.
I am deeply saddened and troubled by the passing of Dr. Dwight Montgomery. he was loyal and personal friend who has been the committed president of our Memphis chapter since 2004. Dr. Montgomery loved Memphis, TN and he loved the civil rights movement. The man was a legend in the state Tennessee; a popular and powerful figure reckoned with.
Dr. Montgomery was a big-hearted person, whose legacy will be education. He was an education advocate and was passionate about both public schools and alternative education. He believed that African American youth needed alternatives because no one educational discipline fits and works for every child.
Because Dr. Montgomery was such an influential civil rights activist, SCLC will help break ground on a brick and mortar monument that pays tribute to the life, legacy and spirit of this giant of a man. He will be me, SCLC and countless others.
We will miss our brother in the movement and his lifetime commitment to social justice, civil rights, and  SCLC!
Please keep his family and friends in prayer.
